I love teaching the lifesaving skill of swimming and working with a team with a great culture.
What is your personal favorite water activity?
Going on boat rides is so much fun!
What’s your favorite FOSS story?
I had a student in Baby Backfloat 2 who was turning three and aging out of baby classes. One week, they were the only student who came to class, so we tried the Littles 2 curriculum, and it went GREAT! Race car kicks, independent backfloats, and all, the student excelled and moved up to L2 after BB2! They are now thriving in our Littles program!
Can you recount a student of yours who experienced a major “lightbulb” moment?
I was teaching a one-student Little 1 class in which the student was having a lot of trouble with breath control, but by week 5, they had gotten it down and were ready to move to L2 and then L3 by the end of the quarter. Seeing them progress and more confident to swim further each week was incredible. Seeing them do a flip from front to back for the first time was emotional for me and mom, the student wanted to keep swimming further and keep pushing the island back! We were so proud of them!
