Faces of FOSS: Areana Rock

Meet Areana Rock

Which school are you at?

Bolingbrook, IL

How long have you been at FOSS?

Just over a year.

What inspired you to become a Swim Teacher?

My dad was a lifeguard, and I spent most of my childhood in and out of the pool, so when I saw a job posting for FOSS, it was a no-brainer!

What's your favorite part about teaching swim lessons at FOSS?

I love watching the students make progress and do things they didn’t think they could before! It goes for babies and adults, and that confidence boost that comes with that is priceless!

What's one piece of advice you would give to parents about water safety?

When watching children around bodies of water, don’t assume someone else has eyes on them! Drowning is a silent event, and most drownings occur when both parents are present, so make sure to communicate with others to keep a fun and safe swim environment!

What's the most rewarding moment you've had as a swim teacher?

A parent told me that one of my babies was visiting the lake and slipped in when no one was watching! In the minute it took the parents to notice she was able to flip and float to keep herself above water! That really sealed the deal for me
