What is your favorite animal?
What is your favorite food?
What is your favorite swim skill?
Paint the ceiling a.k.a. backstroke.
What’s your favorite part of working for FOSS?
I love swimming, and I love teaching others how to swim!
What is your personal favorite water activity?
I swam competitively for many years before I started working at FOSS, and my favorite thing was attending and competing in swim meets. The energy and excitement of swim meets is so exciting! You can tell everyone is ready to go out and try their best. Competing was always the best feeling.
What’s your favorite FOSS story?
One summer I taught siblings. Both of them were so scared to be in the water, and neither liked swimming at all! After our 2-week camp, they turned into such little fish! They love the water now! I have seen so much progress with their swimming journey.
Can you recount a student of yours who experienced a major “lightbulb” moment?
My second summer working a FOSS, I taught a little boy who loved the water, but absolutely hated swimming by himself. Every time I let him go (even if he was on a noodle) you could see the fear and pure panic in his eyes, he was terrified. Our last day of the 2-week camp I let him go, but instead of his usual terrified expression, I could see something click. He then put his face in and blew bubbles and took off. We were both very excited he realized he COULD swim by himself and be completely safe!
