Deck Assistant / Teacher

How long have you worked for FOSS?

1 year!

What is your favorite part of working for FOSS?

Seeing kids progress and watching their excitement at knowing they’re becoming more skilled.

What is your favorite skill to teach and why?

Backfloats because it is SO important.

What is your personal favorite water activity?

Kayaking and body surfing!

As a child, how did you feel about the water? Did you have any particular challenges or lack of confidence you needed to overcome to learn to swim well?

Growing up near Virginia Beach, I loved the water. I swam at camps, the neighborhood pool, and in the ocean. I was born with muscular hypotonia, so I was in physical and occupational therapy. Using my legs effectively was, and can still be, a challenge.

What is your favorite swim lesson activity to do with kids and why?

Cups for water adjustment with the little ones. Getting kids to smile by them washing my hair (what little hair I have) and then shaking it off like a dog makes my kids laugh. Then when they emulate it? PRICELESS.
