FACES OF FOSS: Andrea Carrero

Andrea Carrero
Swim Teacher

How long have you worked for FOSS?
I have worked at Foss for 2 years now and a few months.

What is your favorite part of working for FOSS?
My favorite part of working for Foss is building connections with families. Nothing compares to when you make someone smile by remembering their favorite book, color, or last week’s recital.

What is your favorite level to teach and why?
Little 2’s are my favorite because it’s like having a set of mini super-heroes who don’t know how to use their superpowers. They don’t have a fear of the water but are learning to swim alone. They get excited when they learn to be more and more independent!

What is your favorite skill to teach?
I love teaching pancake flips. The progression is awesome, from crocodile floats to the whole flip!

Can you recount a student of yours who experienced a breakthrough when you were with them
One student, Tony, has arthrogryposis. He loves the water but some tasks are a little harder for him to complete. The day he was able to flip all by himself was amazing! Everyone was so excited, we showed every instructor his flip. Seeing him become more confident and safe in the water was great!

What is your personal favorite water activity?
I love the ocean! Anywhere from jumping waves to being on a boat and feeling the breeze. My favorite memory of the ocean is being able to dive into the middle of the ocean.

What do you want parents to know about swimming with FOSS?
I love it here. Everyone here is a family. We pride ourselves in what we do, and when you swim at FOSS, you become part of our family!
