Bolingbrook, IL: Growing Swim Skills in a Fast-Growing Area

By Foss Swim School

Located 30 miles southwest of downtown Chicago, bordering the community of Naperville, you’ll find the village of Bolingbrook, a growing suburb that’s home to the newest Foss Swim School. The area is rapidly growing – there are even a few farms within the city limits – and as new families make this developing community home, we are ready to help them develop essential swimming skills!

We opened our doors in Bolingbrook and welcomed students for the 2024 Fall Quarter. We hope that this school will be an option for residents of several suburbs southwest of Chicago who haven’t had as many places to learn to swim.

As a fast-growing town, Bolingbrook always has something new popping up. For those not familiar with FOSS, we are dedicated to teaching swimming and water safety skills, typically in scheduled once-a-week quarterly classes made up of students of similar ages and skill levels so they can learn together. Here are five other things to know about our new Bolingbrook location:

Conveniently located near family-friendly amenities

The Bolingbrook school is located near a major intersection and surrounded by shopping, restaurants and services. (The Bolingbrook airport and Illinois Aviation Museum are in our backyard if you’re looking for an interesting activity with the kids!) With lots of parking and easy access from all directions, it’s easy to get in and out, helping make it easier to include swimming lessons in your busy day.

A team of dedicated, trained teachers and staff

In addition to our new hires, our crew includes people who have been with FOSS for some time and are helping establish and spread the Foss Swim School culture here in Bolingbrook. Even our “new” people fully embody our values – every one of them goes through extensive training in the FOSS curriculum and class management to ensure a productive, positive experience for every student. We have a wide range of ages, from college students to grandparents, with diverse backgrounds and passions – but one thing they have in common is they all love working with kids! Our teachers include several who are trained or learning about child development, pediatric health, and in several cases working with kids with special needs. On the fun side we have teachers who are musicians, coaches for martial arts and gymnastics. We have bilingual teachers, and one teacher who amazingly can communicate in six languages!

Warm-water, private changing areas, and amenities

Like most Foss Swim Schools, Bolingbrook features a U-shaped pool filled with warm, 91-degree water that lets us teach many classes at many levels in comfort. Parents are encouraged to be with or watch their kids as they learn, with benches on the pool deck and an enclosed, air-conditioned viewing area that is also welcoming for siblings who aren’t in class. Shower bays on the pool deck are available to rinse off and our shop is ready with any needed supplies. Our changing area has private changing stalls, private bathrooms and showers, and plenty of room to get ready for class or to head home.

Introducing ourselves to Bolingbrook

As we have readied to open our doors, our staff and teachers have been introducing themselves to our neighbors! We may have seen some of you at the Taste of Bolingbrook this past summer, or on visits to local childcare centers. As we ramp up our business, we’ll also be conducting safety presentations out in the community and continuing to build connections with local leaders.

Now enrolling swimmers of all ages and ability

Our proven FOSS Swim Path® curriculum meets all students wherever they are on their swimming journey in terms of age and ability. Our classes range from water acclimation for infants at least six years old up to swim team-like classes for teens. We can teach adults who have never learned to swim, or kids who are already experienced and want to learn more. The great thing about the Swim Path ® is that everyone has a place where they can develop both swimming and life skills so they can be safer and more confident around water.

We look forward to meeting our new neighbors and families from Bolingbrook and surrounding towns. You can call us or drop in anytime to check out FOSS for yourself. If you have a potential student in your family, consider signing up for a free in-person preview lesson where we can evaluate the best level for your swimmer, and you can see how FOSS operates. When you do, we hope you are as excited as we are to start swimming right here in Bolingbrook!
