By Foss Swim School
Where would we be without teachers? At Foss Swim School, our teachers are the focal point of everything we do – all the lessons, all the songs and games, all the passion for water safety comes to your students through them, brought to life by their love of teaching and their unique personalities and teaching styles.
Teacher Appreciation Week is held the first full week of May each year. It’s a time to celebrate our teachers, and FOSS will have some special surprises in the schools just for them. But we also realized that appreciation goes both ways – we often hear from our teachers when they have an amazing breakthrough moment with a student or are inspired by their effort.
What FOSS Teachers Appreciate About Their Students
Teaching isn’t just a job – it’s a calling. Our teachers get something out of teaching students that they couldn’t get anywhere else. Some of the quotes we heard:
“Little 2s are my favorite because it’s like having a set of mini super-heroes who don’t know how to use their superpowers.” – Andrea
“I love seeing the kids every day. They are always smiling and waiting to tell you something fun that has happened during their day.” – Becky
“I love the progress you see in a kid from the first session to the last.” – Josh
“It feels awesome when you help a kiddo overcome a fear of water or to see the parents get so excited to watch their child swim!” – Katie
“The first time one of my special needs students swam on their own after YEARS of lessons was one of the best days of my life. It’s been a huge pleasure to see him develop both in and out of the pool.” – Jon
How You Can Show Appreciation to Your Teacher
Teacher Appreciation Week is also a great time for you and your swimmer to share with your FOSS teacher what you enjoy or appreciate most! Here are some ideas for how to express gratitude:
- A handwritten note or drawing from your student: Always a classic and always appreciated.
- A card or note from a parent sharing how the student has grown: Seeing how they help kids grow as people as well as swimmers is very gratifying to teachers.
- A homemade treat or other snack: Swimming is hungry work, and a little treat is always welcome!
- A high five and thank you from a swimmer: Teachers never get tired of hearing thanks!
Some parents may also choose to offer a small gift or other token of appreciation. These are not expected but will be graciously accepted. Whatever form it takes, letting your swim teacher know they are appreciated is a way to make their day and a good example to set for kids. We look forward to seeing you at the pool – where everyone values what they get out of the lesson!
