Get to Know Glenview, IL: Our Newest Chicagoland School

By Foss Swim School

Foss Swim School continues to expand the reach of our unique brand of swim instruction in the Chicago area, and we are excited to welcome our new Glenview location into the FOSS family! Located in the northern suburbs, we are serving communities between our schools in Highland Park and Niles. This is our eighth school in the Chicago area and 28th overall, giving us the chance to help even more students and families learn to love water!

We opened at Glenview for a half-quarter on July 14 and have been meeting with families and students in for preview lessons as well. We are also looking forward to hosting our first Fun Meet on August 10, 2024, letting swimmers get a taste of the excitement that comes with competitive swimming in a low-pressure, fun environment that’s suitable for all skill levels and ages. Our ribbon-cutting will be held on July 24, which will be a great chance to meet our neighbors and officially introduce ourselves to the community!

Here are five things to know about our new Glenview location:

A modern warm-water pool and comfortable amenities

The new Glenview school features a U-shaped pool that lets us teach many classes at many levels, which will be a new arrangement for any families transferring from our Highland Park school. As always, the water is a comfortable 91 degrees, and we have plenty of room for parents to sit on the deck or watch from our air-conditioned viewing area that’s set up to be an easy place to sit with siblings who aren’t swimming. We’ve updated our changing area with more private showers and handheld hair dryers that make changing after a lesson easier and more comfortable. Shower bays on the pool deck make it easy to get in a quick rinse and our Swim Shop is ready with any supplies you may need or have forgotten!

A great crew of skilled teachers who love kids

We’ve been lucky to have so many great candidates come forward at Glenview. We interviewed 85 people for teaching and staff positions and look forward to growing so we can welcome even more of them to our team! Our crew today includes many people who come from an early childhood development background (including college students) and many with a swimming background, and some with both! All of them love working with kids, and all are fully trained in the FOSS curriculum. Among our instructors are several who speak a second language reflecting the makeup of the community, including Lithuanian, Polish and Spanish. One staff member is also certified to instruct goat yoga, another is in school to become a history teacher, and one instructor himself learned to swim at FOSS and is now sharing that love of water forward!

Active in the Glenview

We have been busy meeting our new neighbors and making connections in the local community! Our FOSS team has been out at community events like Summerfest, giving water safety presentations at local childcare centers and connecting with youth organizations whose members may want to learn swimming or need to take a test before camps. We’ve joined the Glenview Chamber of Commerce and look forward to contributing to the growth and vitality of the city!

Welcoming swimmers of all ages – even adults

Our proven FOSS Swim Path curriculum meets all students wherever they are on their swimming journey in terms of age ability. We have been enrolling many, many first-time students with no swim experience, especially at the younger ages, and also have been pleased to see a larger number of adult students enrolling! Almost all of our students are brand new to FOSS, and we hope that as word gets out, we’ll continue to fill that need for new families as well as welcome transfer students who may live in our neighborhood. The great thing about the Swim Path is that every student will be placed with others of similar experience and age so they can learn together – which is the best way to learn.

Convenient location for families

Our Glenview school is well located for families, convenient to major interchanges and a metro station. We have a large parking lot and a lot of great shops and services nearby, including restaurants, a Target, shopping centers, and a boba tea shop that you might see some of our team members frequenting.

We hope to see neighbors and families at our upcoming events where they can learn more about our program, availability and enrollment. Or if you like, no appointment is necessary to drop in and learn more, and you can sign up online to try a free preview lesson, a great way to start your Swim Path journey. Thanks for the warm welcome to Glenview and we’ll see you at the pool!
