How long have you worked for FOSS?
I have worked at FOSS for 7 great years!

What is your favorite part of working for FOSS?
My favorite part about working at FOSS is the relationships you build both with your co-workers and the families.

What is your favorite level to teach and why?
My favorite age group to teach is the little’s classes. I love that we can tell amazing stories of where we’re swimming to and all the different ways we get to our destinations. I love being able to sing silly songs and see them grow with confidence as they learn new things.

What is your favorite skill to teach?
I love teaching kids how to put their eyes in the water. The moment when they finally are able to put their eyes in by themselves you can see how proud of themselves they are. The light in their eyes is amazing. Another one: I love doing Jack-be-Nimbles with my baby classes. Kids love jumping in the water and they really start to grasp jumping in and swimming.

Can you share a major breakthrough moment for one of your swimmers and what it meant?
I had a child with special needs. We had been working so hard for weeks trying to get him to put his face in the water and correctly hold Monkey cheeks independently. He had finally got it and Mom was so excited, she came over to the edge of the pool just jumping around that he had finally done it! I was so happy because I knew this was the first step for him to be safer in the water.

What is your favorite FOSS memory?
I swam with a little girl at our Woodbury location for one session. A couple of years later, I was at the St. Paul location when the manager had told me I was getting a new girl. It turned out to be the same girl, but since I met her that one time she’d had some bad swimming experiences. She saw me and decided she would only swim with me. This girl went on to become an outgoing, swim-loving little fish.
