We would like to thank the 2011 Fall Session Fab 5′ers…

Matt B. – Hello. My name is Matthew B. When I was little I was terrified of the water because of an experience at our cabin. It wasn’t until years later that I fell in love with swimming. I joined the swim team in middle school. I loved swimming on a team and worked very hard to be fast and became a pretty good front crawler. I wish I knew then what I know now! In high school swimming became much more competitive but still fun; however, in tenth grade we got a new coach who was very militant. All of a sudden swimming was no fun anymore, so I decided to pursue another sport. That is when I realized that learning needs to be fun. My passion for swimming came back when I started working at Foss and I love it! Knowing that I make a difference in a child’s life every day is a good feeling. I once heard a saying that says, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.” That’s me in a nut shell. Hope you say hello sometime!

Jamie A. – I was born and raised in Minnesota. I love the summers here where I can spend my time soaking in the sunshine. I began swimming competitively in 1st grade and continued through the 4 years I attended Hamline University. I also attended St. Paul College for Massage Therapy and recently started working in St. Louis Park at Sabes JCC. The reason I became an instructor at Foss over 4 years ago was because of my love for swimming and being able to teach a child a skill I love. Although I teach all levels, my favorite classes to teach are the Baby Backfloat classes. I love seeing a child get excited when they accomplish a skill they weren’t able to do before or when they give me a high-five and I fall back into the water. I am a big movie fan and spend the majority of my weekends at the movie theatre. My favorite movie of all time is the Princess Bride; but I love Disney movies too!  In my Littles classes I enjoy singing songs from movies during back floating. My goal in life is to try to get to every Theme, Amusement or Water Park in the US! I love the thrill of roller coasters and water slides.

Lorena M. – Hello! My favorite color is red and my two favorite movies of all time are the Little Mermaid and Aladdin. I LOVE turtles and going to the beach. I would love to have shoes that were every color of the rainbow as well as travel to Italy some day. I enjoy drawing and painting and listening to all types of music. I have been working at Foss Swim School since 2006 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I love knowing that in some way I have changed a child’s life by helping them with the life long skill of swimming.

Andrew P. – Hello, my name is Andrew. I enjoy teaching kids how to swim and water ski. I’ve been teaching here for 4-5 years and what I love best about teaching at Foss is making connections with my kids and helping them accomplish something they’ve never done before. My favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda. My favorite tv shows are Chuck, White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Grey’s Anatomy. I study architecture and enjoy drawing up new building designs. I plan to travel around the world studying building designs and landscaping. My favorite soda is Mountain Dew Voltage. I love fall and winter. My favorite colors are red, black, and yellow.

Nicole O. – Hello! Miss Nicole here! I have been working at Foss since 2005. I not only teach lessons but also work in the office, on deck, and manage at the Savage location. Usually you’ll find me teaching Little’s and Backfloat Baby classes due to the fact that I can barely touch in the deeper lanes! Teaching kids a life saving skill and having fun while doing it, you can’t find a better gig than that. Not only do I love working with kids and swimming but being on the pool deck gives me a chance to talk with parents which has made me feel like we are all part of a special family here in Savage. I have also come to love the staff here as well; what a great bunch we have! A few things about myself… I grew up in Belle Plaine and now live in New Prague with my better half and my 5 year old son who keeps me very busy while not at work. In the summer I love to camp, fish and swim. And always, no matter the season, I love to sing, whether it be to the kids in the water, in the car jamming out to the radio or even karaoke. I absolutely love my job at Foss and am very grateful to be part of such a wonderful program!
