Do you close for weather?
“It’s Minnesota for crying out loud!” Mr. Foss is exceptionally hysterical about this one. You should know he’s part Norweigan Viking, eternal optimist and swimming die-hard. This means he is always open for teaching swimming… especially in snowy weather! This rule doesn’t apply to outdoor summer programs. Seriously, we’ve tried more than a few different ways to handle this and the best really is to just remain open for all those faithful Minnesotans who brave ANY kind of weather and show up. For those of you who question “Are they open?” please always consult the website immediately for an update and instructions. Frequently, we will offer credits for families that miss class during city/statewide school closings even though Foss Swim School is ALWAYS open!
What happens if you have to close the pool for other issues?
We have great water. It’s clean, clear, and well looked after! State law requires “water recirculation systems must clarify and disinfect the pool volume of water in six hours or less.” Our pools, being over-designed typically turn over in 2–3 hours and have “back up” or redundant systems that enable us to continue running legally even if one side goes down. In our existence of operating our own pools, we have closed a portion of the day 6 times since 1993 due to water/chemical issues. Considering we teach over 12,000 children a week across seven pools – seven days a week… that’s pretty clean!! Fecal contamination from swimmers can be a 15 minute or 12 hour closing depending on the nature of the “accident”. Remember to “Potty first” and all kids under age 3 must wear swim diaper/pants! Each of our pools is managed by liscensed Certified Pool Operators and all pools are checked 3 times daily for proper chemical levels. Credits or refunds are issued for families that are affected by a water or facility (non weather) incident.
